"Natural" Selection? By Pauli
While browsing through the BBC news website I came across this story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/14479661. According to the article, on August 11th, a new colony of rare species of spider was introduced into a natural reserve in Dorset, England. They were so rare that there was only an estimated number of 56 remaining in 1994. Through conservation efforts, the population has now grown to around 1000. They did this through the use of water bottles filled with heather and moss, which simulates their underground habitat.
While the preservation of a species may seem a noble act, are not the people conducting this reintroduction of a species circumventing natural selection? Shouldn’t nature dictate the survival of a species?
