Learning Goal: Become familiar with the vocabulary used in solving algebraic equations
Do Now: In your math notebook write the following definitions: Algebraic equation, inverse operation, solution, identity (don't forget these essentials that we already learned - variable, like terms, coefficient, constant term)
Activity 1: Solve simple equations mentally, explain that some equations have no solution, one solution, two, three all values. Provide examples.
Activity 2: Discuss equations as balances. Explain that balance can be maintained if we +, -, * or / the same amount to each side. “Whatever we do to one side of the equation we do to the other side”
Homework: Due Thursday, March 8th. Click HERE and watch the Khan Academy video "simple equations." When you are finished watching the video, click the green icon that says "practice this concept" and complete the ten questions. I also encourage you to move on to the next set of problems if these are too easy for you. Remember that I will be tracking your progress through the Khan Academy website so be sure to log in before starting the problems.

Properties of Numbers Test!!! 7A will take the test on Wed, Sept 14th
7B will take the test on Thurs, Sept 15th
Test preparation:
- The test covers content from chapter 3 in the textbook. NOTE - roots of whole numbers will not be on the test
- Review set 3B is excellent practice for the test. I highly recommend that you spend the time to go over all the questions (except the square root ones)
Homework guidelines:
- All homework must be completed, by hand, in your spiral bound math notebook. It must be completed before class on the day it is due.
- Show all work.
- Make sure your handwriting is legible. Take your time and give yourself space between problems.
- Circle or highlight your answers.
- Check all of your answers (they are in the back of the book). Use a red pen - check mark for correct, and X for incorrect.
- Correct your mistakes using the red pen. For example, you can re-write questions that you missed on the first attempt at the end of your homework.
What should I do if I don't know how to do the homework problem?
- Use the problem solving plan (have you read the problem three times?)
- Look at the examples provided in the textbook.
- Ask a family member for help.
